There can be variety of reasons for this purpose such as for improving the accuracy of lubrication procedures and enabling inspections of the in-service oil and machinery, for ensuring about precise oil analysis and consistent oil sampling, for increasing the effectiveness of the contamination control program etc. in order to achieve all these objectives, changes must be made at several levels of plants. It also includes the technology and hardware which are currently in use.

- Process of Lubrication: It is necessary to ensure the fact that the machines are receiving the right lubricant in sufficient quantity at the right frequency. It should also be noticed that they have been lubricated by using clean, user friendly and safe procedures.
- Observations: An efficient way is provided by oil analysis for monitoring the condition of the oil and the machine which is also supported by visual inspection of the in-service oil. It can be confirmed that the oil is in good condition or not and if there are contaminants or excessive degradation in machineries by the simple visual examinations of them. It is also necessary that machines should be checked time to time for verifying the fact that lubrication system and machine components are free of deposits and excessive wear.
- Examining Oil: For a successful oil analysis program, oil sampling is must. If the oil samples have taken improperly, it will produce defective technical reports as well as incorrect machine diagnosis.For proper oil sampling, a primary sampling port would be installed by an example of machine modification. These ports need to be installed according to the configuration of the lubrication system. In order to monitor specific components, secondary sampling ports can be useful.
- Controlling Contamination: The strategic element of a proactive maintenance is a well structured contamination. It is very helpful in eliminating the root causes of critical machine failure modes. For enhancing contamination exclusion and removal, a broad range of machine modifications can be made.
One must ensure that the proper and appropriate accessories must be installed in machineries in order to do proper lubrication process. These accessories typically involve the lubricant delivery devices such as single point lubricators, constant level oilers, grease fittings, centralized lube systems, grease purge valves, and spray system etc.
